The media play an important role in the dissemination of information on the 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. However, it is important to measure whether the population is receiving information that calms it down, as well as whether such news are in accordance with the magnitude of the issue. Objective: To validate a questionnaire that measures the perception of the media and their informative role in the face of COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A validation process for a questionnaire that measures the perception of the magnitude of this issue and whether it generates fear was carried out. The validation was performed by means of a literature search. Moreover, a first version of the scale was developed, which was assessed by 30 experts (physicians, epidemiologists, among others). After this, an exploratory factor analysis and descriptive statistics were performed. Results: Our scale had 13 initial items; however, one of them was eliminated because of its unsatisfactory level of statistical adequacy. Exploratory factorial analysis and parallel analysis suggested three factors. Results of the KMO coefficient (0.833) and the Bartlett's test of sphericity (4998.5; gl = 66; p<0.001) were acceptable and significant, which justify the exploratory factorial analysis. The correlation between the factors was >0.4 and robust analyses revealed a satisfactory factorial structure (X2=88.0; p= 0.001; IFC=0.968; GFI=0.992; TLI=0.937; RMSEA=0.123). In the descriptive statistics of the 12 final items, moderate and significant correlations between the items were reported (> 0.5). Conclusion: We generate a scale to validate the perception of how people receive information from the media. Thus, this scale can be used to measure the informative role of the media regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, and may even serve for other similar public health emergencies.

Empirical Analysis of Mental and Physical Health of Minority Youth

The education of mental and physical health is an important task to promote the well-being of ethnic minorities in China. To fulfil the task, the first step is to clearly identify the health problems of minority youth. Therefore, this paper empirically analyses the mental and physical health of minority youth in universities. The subjects were subjected to a physical health test and a mental health using Cattell's 16 Personality Factor Model. The test results were analysed statistically on the current state of, correlation between, and problems with mental health and physical health of the subjects. The results show that the physical fitness of the subjects is greatly affected by multiple personality factors; the subjects with good physical health have high scores in excitement, perseverance and courage, but low scores in intelligence, suspicion, experimentation, independence, and tension; the mental health of the subjects is positively correlated with the total score of the physical health test. The research results provide a new guidance on keeping the mental and physical health of minority youth in colleges.

An Enhanced Concept based Approach for User Centered Health Information Retrieval to Address Presentation Issues

The diversity of health information seekers signifies the enormous variety of information needs by numerous users. The existing health information retrieval systems failed to address the information needs of both medical expert and laymen patients. This study focused on designing an enhanced information retrieval approach using the concept based approach that would address the information needs of both medical experts and laymen patients. We evaluated and compared the performance of the proposed enhanced concept based approach with the existing approaches namely: concept based approach (CBA), query likelihood model (QLM) and latent semantic indexing (LSI) approach using Diagnosia 7, Medical Subject Heading (MeSH), Khresmoi Project 6 and Genetic Home Reference datasets. The experimental results obtained shows that the proposed enhanced concept based approach manage to score similarity scores of 1.0 (100%) in respect to maxSim values for all the runs in all the four datasets and idf weighting values of between 3.82-3.86 for all the runs in all the four datasets. While the existing approaches (CBA, QLM, LSI) scored the maxSim scores of 0.5 (50%) for all their runs in all the four dataset and idf weighting values of between 1.40-1.47 for all the four dataset, as a result of their inability to generate and display medical search results in both medical experts and layman's forms. These results shows that the proposed enhanced concept based approach is the best approach suited to be used in addressing presentation issues.
