Auxiliary Screening COVID-19 by Serology

Abstract: BackgroundThe 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic remains rampant in many countries/regions. Improving the positive detection rate of COVID-19 infection is an important measure for control and prevention of this pandemic. This meta-analysis aims to systematically summarize the current characteristics of the auxiliary screening methods by serology for COVID-19 infection in real world.MethodsWeb of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, PubMed, CNKI, and Wangfang databases were searched for relevant articles … Show more

“…In this study the sensitivity of the rapid assays in symptomatic patients increased from 56% in the first week to 92% after 3 weeks and then decreased to 80% after >29days [105] . Pan and co-workers pooled serological data from 35775 participants from all the continents finding a good predictive value for SARS-CoV-2 infection, however data from POCs were not specifically analyzed [106] . Key considerations for evaluation of studies on LFIA have been formulated by Ochola and co-workers [80] .…”

“…5 Due to emerging new viral variants with the potential to evade the immune response, there is a continuous public health need for serological testing as an auxiliary method to screen for SARS-CoV-2 immunity in the general population. 6 Serum antibodies are detected in clinical laboratories either using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) or a chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA). 7 In an ELISA, the antigen of interest, protein or peptide, is attached to a microtiter plate and used to detect antibodies in the samples that would bind to the antigen.…”

“…Early in the pandemic, detection of SARS-CoV_2 antibodies helped to contain and manage the pandemic by detecting people who have immunity against the virus . Due to emerging new viral variants with the potential to evade the immune response, there is a continuous public health need for serological testing as an auxiliary method to screen for SARS-CoV-2 immunity in the general population …”
