An update on lateral flow immunoassay for the rapid detection of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies

Abstract:
<p>Over the last three years, after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, an unprecedented number of novel diagnostic tests have been developed. Assays to evaluate the immune response to SARS-CoV-2 have been widely considered as part of the control strategy. The lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA), to detect both IgM and IgG against SARS-CoV-2, has been widely studied as a point-of-care (POC) test. Compared to laboratory tests, LFIAs are faster, cheaper and user-friendly, thus available als… Show more

“…However, the extraction of gizzerosine from samples requires an extended time (overnight). Rapid screening methods have been widely used in clinical diagnosis, disease screening, , environmental detection, food safety, , and other fields with the development of technology. The feed caused gizzard erosion due to gizzerosine usually contains a high concentration of histamine, which is an important index of food freshness, such as fish and other food substrates.…”

“…Firstly, it provides rapid results, usually within 15 to 30 min, allowing for quick decision-making and prompt patient management. Secondly, QD-LFIA has demonstrated high sensitivity and specificity when detecting the SARS-CoV-2 virus, ensuring the accurate identification of infected individuals [ 91 , 159 , 166 , 172 ]. Additionally, QD-LFIA testing is relatively simple to perform, making it suitable for use in various healthcare settings, including resource-limited environments and point-of-care settings.…”

“…Both laboratory techniques 67,68 and POCTs 69,70 have been made available so far, including LFIA devices. 71–74 These systems provide qualitative results and, in some cases, quantitative estimation with the introduction of equipment as reading systems.…”
