Attitudes of dentists toward persons with intellectual disabilities in Jordanian hospitals

Abstract: This study examined attitudes of dentists in Jordanian hospitals toward persons with intellectual disabilities. The study also assessed the effect of gender and years of experience of the dentists on their attitudes. Fifty-four dentists were asked to rank their attitudes toward persons with intellectual disabilities on an attitude survey. Three studies, one of dentists practicing in Jordan (Al-Zboon and Hatmal, 2016), one of general practitioners in the United Kingdom (Gill et al, 2002) and one of practice nurses in the United Kingdom (Melville et al, 2005), all found that clinicians generally had positive attitudes towards their patients with intellectual disability. However, Melville et al found female practice nurses had slightly more positive attitudes, while older and more experienced practice nurses generally had more negative attitudes, a finding also corroborated by Bond et al (1997) in their study of general practitioners in the United Kingdom.…”
