AtRD22 and AtUSPL1, Members of the Plant-Specific BURP Domain Family Involved in Arabidopsis thaliana Drought Tolerance

Abstract: Crop plants are regularly challenged by a range of environmental stresses which typically retard their growth and ultimately compromise economic yield. The stress response involves the reprogramming of approximately 4% of the transcriptome. Here, the behavior of AtRD22 and AtUSPL1, both members of the Arabidopsis thaliana BURP (BNM2, USP, RD22 and polygalacturonase isozyme) domain-containing gene family, has been characterized. Both genes are up-regulated as part of the abscisic acid (ABA) mediated moisture st… Show more

“…To unravel the mechanism by which HbEBP1 OE enhances drought resistance in Arabidopsis , expression of the drought-responsive genes RD22 and RD29a was examined (Yamaguchi-Shinozaki and Shinozaki, 1993b, 1994; Msanne et al, 2011; Harshavardhan et al, 2014). Leaves were detached from 2-week-old seedlings and subjected to dehydration for 4 h. Then the expression of dehydration-responsive genes was detected.…”

“…The protein products of AtRD22 and AtUSPL1, both members of the thale cress BURP domain‐containing gene family, suppress drought stress response (Harshavardhan et al. ). ADR6 is a soybean BURP protein that is down‐regulated by auxin (Datta et al.…”

“…RD22 has also been reported to be involved in Arabidopsis drought tolerance and ABA-mediated stress responses in grape [33,34]. These results suggested that ABA-mediated stress responses might be activated for stress tolerance of transgenic plants.…”
