Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) refers to the amount of ethanol present in the blood of an individual. Ethanol is among the most common substances encountered in forensic toxicology because ethanol abuse is related to fatal traffic accidents and general antisocial behavior. The objective was to describe the profile of victims of fatal traffic accidents in the state of Mato Grosso between 2013 and 2015. We analyzed 3,045 case records from Mato Grosso state Official Public Forensic Institution, Politec. Positive results for the presence of ethanol in the blood of victims of fatal traffic accidents was higher for males 1,162 (83.1%), from 21 to 30 years of age, and occurred predominantly during the weekends. Traffic accidents in Cuiabá County had the highest mortality coefficient per 100 thousand inhabitants (28.9%) than the rest of the state. Regarding the months of the year, there was a homogenous distribution with a discrete predominance of cases in October, November and December. The incidents were more frequent between 22h, 8h and 11h/12h am. This study contributes not only for the identification of the individuals most likely to be involved in traffic accidents where ethanol was consumed, but also to subsidize public policies aimed towards intervening and raising awareness of damages due to association among driving and ethanol use or abuse.

Objective: to analyze the effects of drugs on the families of users included in sentinel events. Methods: an exploratory study with epidemiological investigation of 30 cases of hospitalized patients with a diagnosis of physical trauma associated with drug use (sentinel events). Results: there was a predominance of males, with an average of 40.1 years, low schooling and unemployed. Most had used drugs on average for 20.8 years and were in families with addictive behavior. The most commonly used drug was alcohol, and traumas were due to traffic accidents, falls and aggression (73.4%). Conclusion: drug abuse determined aggressiveness in the family context, previous trauma, illicit maneuvers for buying drugs, and home use of drugs, thus reinforcing social and family vulnerability.

Objective: to describe the search for the therapeutic help of individuals using and abusing of psychoactive substances. Methods: it is a cross-sectional epidemiology study of individuals from the central-western region of Brazil, with a history of abusive use of psychoactive substances. Face-to-face interviews were conducted at the research sites in a private setting. The data were analyzed by statistical analysis. Results: there were 266 individuals interviewed, 85.3% were male and with an age of onset of use ≥18 years old. Most interviewees reported seeking help in rehabilitation clinics. Prayer was the most frequent intervention, and the professional with the greatest influence was the pharmacist. Conclusion: men were prevalent among those who sought help, and crack was the drug in use reported by most of them. Descriptors: Substance-Related Disorders; Nursing; Patient Readmission.Objetivo: descrever a procura por ajuda terapêutica de indivíduos em uso e abuso de substâncias psicoativas. Métodos: epidemiológico transversal, realizado com indivíduos da região centro-oeste do Brasil, com histórico de uso abusivo de substâncias psicoativas. Realizaram-se entrevistas face a face nos locais da pesquisa em ambiente privativo. Os dados passaram por análise estatística. Resultados: foram entrevistados 266 indivíduos, sendo 85,3% do sexo masculino e idade de início de uso ≥18 anos. A maioria dos entrevistados relatou busca por ajuda em clínicas de reabilitação. A oração foi a ação de intervenção mais frequente, e o profissional com maior influência foi o farmacêutico. Conclusão: homens foram prevalentes dentre aqueles que procuraram ajuda, e o crack foi a droga em uso relatada pela maioria.
