Association between Circulating MicroRNAs (miR-21-5p, miR-20a-5p, miR-29b-3p, miR-126-3p and miR-101-3p) and Chronic Allograft Dysfunction in Renal Transplant Recipients

Abstract: Chronic allograft dysfunction (CAD) is a major condition affecting long-term kidney graft survival. Serum microRNA (miRNA) has been reported as a biomarker for various conditions of allograft injuries. The upregulation of miR-21 is the best-known miRNA change in graft tissue, urine and plasma. However, the correlation of plasma miR-21 with the severity of CAD remains unclear. In our study, 40 kidney transplantation recipients with late graft survival for more than 10 years were enrolled. The CAD group (n = 20)… Show more

“…Some studies suggest that let-7g-5p may participate in osteoblastic differentiation, but the mechanisms are not yet well understood, with a more oncogenic role in extraosseous bone. [68][69][70][71] MiR-15b-5p that was overexpressed in sera of OI patients in miRNome analysis was weakly but significantly downregulated in OI patients in the validation phase (p < 0.042) and did not differ in quantitative and structural groups. MiR-15b-5p is known for its dual role in oncogenesis as an oncogene or a tumor suppressor, depending on its dysregulation in various tissue and of its numerous gene targets.…”

“…Its overexpression positively correlates with acute kidney injury in patients with multiorgan failure [40]. Recently, circulating mir-101-3p was associated with biopsy-proven chronic allograft nephropathy or rejection in a cohort of adults with ten-year-old transplants [41].…”

“…Concerning the seven miRNAs regulated in the same direction (up or down), all cohorts in FM patients were around 50 years old, except one [28] that did not mention the age. In OP, the patients were over 50 years old, with 70-year-old persons in five studies [23,36,37,41,43] and no mention of age in several [38][39][40]. In FM, all studies but one [32]-with only 30% men-included only females.…”
