This paper explores the pivotal and influential roles of an informal leader in community development at Pasar Banggi village, Rembang, Central Java particularly in relation to social capital, social scenarios of change, organization and local community participatory engagement in the development process. This paper, thus, presents social welfare perspective with qualitative approach by phenomenological method. As this paper was based on case studies, it deploys purposive technique to determine the key informants forwarding to next informants. Participatory observation and in-depth interviews were carried out to obtain information. The results were then analyzed through descriptive-qualitative analysis. The findings showed that the informal leader possessed natural ability in building up social capital, networks and trust in the community which revitalized socio-cultural and environmental values.

In 2013, the National Football League (NFL) announced an online contest entitled BTogether We Make Football^. With five trips to Super Bowl XLVIII (48) as grand prizes, over 5000 participants submitted online essays or videos explaining the impact that football has had on their lives. We took a systematic random sample of these submissions for the purposes of our qualitative study. Using the process of Constant Comparison, all data were systematically categorized and separated until major themes could be identified. All data were processed using NVIVO Qualitative Research Software. As the data were analyzed, themes were identified; predominately in the form of benefits and assets from football. Individual and familial benefits such as physical fitness, intrinsically and extrinsically motivated personal achievement, and the strengthening of family were common. Assets, in line with Social Capital Theory, were also prevalent in the study. Football was commonly identified as a vehicle for a community to build social capital. In the midst of adversity, football was also used to bring normalcy to a community in pain. Finally, the multi-tiered hierarchy of players, coaches, parents, and spectators provided a fascinating look into meaningful community-building. Whether through mentorship, community identity, overcoming adversity or team achievement, football provides countless individual and community benefits and assets. These were clearly present in the data analyzed from the BTogether We Make Footballŝ ubmissions.

Pastoral Fulani nomads are among the marginalized and educationally disadvantageous communities in Nigeria, and many African countries. Since education remained the mechanism for individual, community and national developments, such groups need to be given attention for the success of sustainable development goal in African nations. To achieve this, human, as well as sociocultural hindrances associated with their educational development need to be evaluated. Therefore, this study explore how pulaaku moral value influences the understanding and perception of the nomadic Fulani in education as the precipitating factor for non-participation in education in Ikara district. Two themes emerged as the findings; firstly Perception of the pastoral Fulani on education generally. Secondly factors precipitating non-participation, is presented into subthemes; strict adherence to pulaaku moral values, fear of fragmentation of social capital, lack of role model and parent ignorance. Thus, the study concluded that Fulani pastoral communities have positive perception on education, but it was evident that socio-cultural factors such as lacking role model with pulaaku principle, perception in fear of the system as a threat to social capital and ignorance influenced their low participation. Hence, there is the need for policymakers, government agencies and stakeholders to have an in-depth conceptual understanding of the Fulani values through funding ethnographic research project, and possibly integrate its ideas and those factors in the design of an acceptable nomadic education system particularly the pulaaku. Also, integrate community-based volunteer groups, purposively for advocacy and awareness will enhanced the group understanding and participation in educational community development.
