Assessment of Vulnerable Buildings Due to Earthquake Loading Using Rapid Visual Screening Smartphone Application

Abstract: Examination of vulnerability level of buildings to earthquakes is divided into two types, the quick checks (Rapid Visual Screening, RVS) and a thorough examination. On thorough examination, it involves specialists of the field of building structures and other related fields, takes longer and is also cost much more expensive. While a quick check, it does not involve many specialists in a particular area, does not require a long time and are relatively inexpensive. This study builds an assessment of the vulnerab… Show more

“…The software works on any mobile device with a browser without the need to download an application; however, it requires an active data connection. The preearthquake assessment according to FEMA's RVS is addressed also by the RViSITS [78,79], the Urban RAT [80], and the ML-EHSAPP [81] applications. The information gathered by the latter helps the training of artificial neural networks in order to refine the evaluation of seismic vulnerability and the exposure of buildings.…”

“…The estimation of construction cost (total cost/m 2 ) of each building typology is presented in the following table. The cost can be estimated either through local HSPK (unit cost in province/city) or national regulation [2] In order to calculate the potential physical loss in a subdistrict (kelurahan), the total floor area of each building typology in a subdistrict is calculated based on the population data from Bapeko. In table 6, for instance, the total floor area of several building tipologies in Kelurahan Asemrowo is presented.…”
