“…However, the levels of both hormones remained in the normal range. Similarly, in Iraq, reported a significant increase in T3 and T4 levels in depressed women infected with T. gondii than healthy controls, T3 and T4 levels remained in the normal range [32]. However, raissi etal., [35] in Iran, reported non-significant differences in T3 and T4 levels between hypothyroidism group, hyperthyroidism group and control group in correlation with T. gondii seropositivity.…”

“…On the contrary, another study in Iraq reported a significantly higher levels of TSH in T. gondii infected women with depression than healthy control. The authors think this increase in TSH level might be due to TSHR-antibodies, which bind to TSH receptors in the thyroid gland and subsequently lead to increased TSH levels in serum [32]. In the present study, this negative association between TSH and IgG or normal levels of TSH can be interpreted as follows; that T. gondii has no effect on thyroid function, and the parasite is unable to infect the hypothalamus in most people, or it could be due to the effect of antipsychotic medications, which have been proven to interfere with thyroid hormone levels [33] and inhibit replication of T. gondii [34].…”
