Assessment of the Use of Renewable Energy Sources for the Charging Infrastructure of Electric Vehicles

Abstract: Application of renewable energy sources is a relevant area of energy supply for urban infrastructure. In 2019, the share of energy produced by such sources reached 11% (for solar energy) and 22% (for wind energy) of the total energy produced during the year. However, these systems require an improvement in their efficiency that can be achieved by introducing electric vehicles. They can accumulate, store and transfer surplus energy to the city’s power grid. A solution to this problem is a smart charging infrast… Show more

“…The potential for hybrid implementation between WT and PV is possible to support the process of providing electricity sources [13]. The study also supports the analysis in the implementation of the provision of electrical energy from renewable energy sources in the process of charging electric vehicles [14], [15].…”

“…The number of potential sources of renewable energy has an impact on the amount of energy that can be produced using PV and WT [10], [15]. Utilization of renewable energy sources can be used to meet the needs of electrical energy at home and fulfill energy charging in electric vehicles [7], [8], [14]. The need for electrical energy for each house is reached up to 1.2 kW while the average per day can reach 11.26 kWh/day.…”

“…Other digital applications complete the previous proposals with the use of sensors or even machine learning based on real-time data to assess possible traffic congestions and release the cities from pollution but also savings for their users. To this, Gorbunova and Anisimov [54] encourage the use of renewable sources to energy supply for urban infrastructure to improve their efficiency and enhance the benefits derived from the grid.…”

“…The infrastructure for EV charging systems is crucial for the growth and revitalization of the EV market, as highlighted by Kim & Joung [45]. Furthermore, the use of renewable energy sources for charging infrastructure is explored in a study by [46]. The authors propose a smart charging infrastructure that can accumulate, store, and transfer surplus energy to the power grid.…”
