RESUMO:Em 1902, o jornalista Euclides da Cunha publicou a obra Os Sertões que, além de iniciar o Pré-Modernismo brasileiro, colocou em evidência o sertão baiano, a partir da retratação da Guerra de Canudos. Este trabalho volta-se ao capítulo "A Terra" do livro euclidiano, com o objetivo de analisar, à luz do método de análise do discurso e da perspectiva ecocrítica -que concerne às imbricações entre a literatura e a ecologia -, a visão que o autor traça entre os sertanejos e o sertão, bem como o seu próprio sentimento com relação a esse espaço, tendo em vista os conceitos de topofobia -aversão ao ambiente físico -e topofilia -familiaridade ou apego, propostos pelo geógrafo chinês Yi-Fu Tuan e referentes à geografia humanista. Assim, os discursos presentes na narrativa demonstram a predominância do sentimento de aversão e horror à Caatinga no que diz respeito à subjetividade do escritor e o oikos referenciado por ele. ABSTRACT:In 1902, the journalist Euclides da Cunha published the work Os Sertões which, starting Pre-Brazilian Modernism and enhance Bahia´s backlands from the Canudos War. We analyze the chapter "The Earth" of the Euclidean book, in order to examine the discourse method analysis and the ecocriticism perspective -which concerns the interactions between literature and ecology -the author approaches between the backwoods and wilderness, and his own feelings regarding this space, considering topophobia concepts -aversion to physical environment and topophilia -familiarity or attachment, proposed by the chinese geographer Yi-Fu Tuan and related humanistic geography. Thus, the present discourse in the narrative demonstrate predominance of dislikes and horror feelings for the caatinga, regarding the subjectivity of the writer and oikos referenced by him.
