Traditional methods of economic evaluation of wood and charcoal production projects are based on indicators analysis, however, they are subject to market variations and uncertainties. The study was carried out in the city of Lamim, Minas Gerais State, to evaluate the economic viability of wood and charcoal production using the kiln-furnace system, due to the need to know the economic viability of this new production system. Sensitivity analysis using the Monte Carlo technique was performed on costs and revenues. The wood and charcoal production cash flow was elaborated and the following criteria were used in the economic analysis: Net Present Value (NPV), Benefit-Cost Ratio (BCR), Equivalent Periodic Value (EPV), and Internal Return Rate (IRR). The wood and charcoal production sensitivity analysis was carried out using the software @RISK, according to the VPE parameter, which allows comparing projects with different durations. Wood production was economically viable, with NPV of $40.26 ha-1 and EPV of $ 16.80 ha-1, with an average production cost of $13.51 m3 wood-1. The EPV mean value found in the sensitivity analysis was $18.33 ha-1. The charcoal production was economically viable, with NPV of $4.43 mdc charcoal-1 and EPV of $3.52 mdc charcoal-1. The EPV mean value found in the sensitivity analysis was $9.80 mdc charcoal-1. It was possible to conclude that the wood and charcoal production are economically viable in the region.

O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a rentabilidade e produtividade de um povoamento de Eucalyptus spp. mal conduzido no Estado da Paraíba em relação à um povoamento em condições adequadas de manejo e produtividade. Os dados foram obtidos do inventário florestal realizado no povoamento de Eucalyptus spp. com área de 43,7 ha e idade de 10 anos. Esse povoamento teve um baixo investimento de implantação e manutenção, fato que resultou em uma alta taxa de mortalidade, sendo classificado como mal conduzido (Cenário 1). Para quantificação da perda econômica e de produtividade utilizou-se como parâmetro os dados de um povoamento considerado ideal (Cenário 2), sendo aquele em que houve maior investimento para a implantação e manutenção em todas as fases de desenvolvimento, atingindo assim a produtividade esperada para a região do estudo. A viabilidade econômica foi avaliada pelos indicadores econômicos: Valor Presente Líquido (VPL), Taxa Interna de Retorno (TIR) e Relação Benefício/Custo (B/C). Constatou-se que a atividade da eucaliptocultura no Estado da Paraíba é economicamente viável com VPL positivo, TIR maior que a TMA e B/C acima de 1 para ambos os cenários. Porém, o povoamento atual (Cenário 1) apresentou perda de R$ 2.256,43 ha-1 em comparação com o VPL do povoamento esperado. Conclui-se que o povoamento atual deve ser reformado visando um maior retorno econômico.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the growth of the hybrid clone Eucalyptus grandis × Eucalyptus urophylla submitted to competition with weeds and determine the period prior to economic loss (PPEL). The experiment was carried out in Ulianópolis, Pará State, Brazil, and consisted of the treatments continuous control and no control of weeds. Weed management was carried out by integrating both mechanical and chemical control. Stem base diameter, height, canopy diameter of eucalyptus plants were measured on the 16th month after planting. Wood volume was estimated by means of a volumetric equation. The treatments continuous control and no control of weeds were compared using the Hotelling’s T2 test and the parameters for PPEL calculation were defined from volume estimation. The treatment continuous control promoted significant gains in eucalyptus growth. PPEL tended to be reduced by 3.8287 and 0.2393 units with the increase of a unit in the price of wood and the increase of planting yield, respectively. For different eucalyptus wood prices, the calculated PPEL ranged from 40 to 161 days of coexistence with weeds.
