O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar e discutir as atitudes e ações das pessoas frente ao derramamento de petróleo no litoral nordestino brasileiro, e divulgadas na mídia, na perspectiva da Alfabetização Científica e Tecnológica (ACT) de Fourez (2005). O vazamento é considerado um dos maiores desastres ambientais do país, com incalculáveis impactos ambientais, econômicos e na saúde pública. Vinte e quatro reportagens publicadas na época pela maior mídia brasileira, o Grupo Globo, foram analisadas por meio da Análise Textual Discursiva. Como resultado, verificou-se que que parte significativa das atitudes e ações frente ao derramamento de óleo não estava amparada por conhecimentos científico-tecnológicos. Os recursos tecnológicos utilizados no monitoramento do óleo destacados pela mídia partiram de iniciativas pontuais, privadas ou estrangeiras. Conclui-se que a ACT poderia conduzir de outra forma as atitudes e ações, promovendo uma comunicação mais efetiva e igualitária entre as pessoas envolvidas diretamente com o derramamento de óleo ou a partir da mídia para a sociedade em geral.

Environmental impacts are increasingly due to the human polluting activities. Therefore, there is a need to develop technologies capable of removing contamination and driving the impacted environment as close as possible to its inherent characteristics. One of the major problems still faced is the spill of oil into water. Therefore, to solve the environmental problem, this work shows the use of magnetically modified geopolymer materials as an oil remover from water with a magnet’s aid. The results obtained were outstanding since the average intrinsic oil removal capability (IORC) was 150 g/g. The presented IORC is the largest found in the materials produced by our research group, constituting an extremely encouraging result, mainly because of the ease of preparing the magnetic geopolymer system. Furthermore, the low cost of production and the material’s capability to be reused as filler of polymer or even cementitious matrices allows us to project that this nanocomposite can be widely used, constituting an economically viable alternative for more efficient environmental recovery processes.

“…Petroleum activity in the marine environment can cause several types of environmental impacts such as habitat degradation, which is one of the main factors that cause the reduction of the planet's biodiversity (Gomes;Palma & Silva, 2000;Martins et al, 2015). The Brazilian northeastern coast suffered in 2019 the greatest acute impact of oil in the country’s history, with all states in the region being affected by extra-heavy oil. Holothuria (Halodeima) grisea is a detritivorous holoturoid, which ingests sediment to feed, and can passively ingest oil from spills existing in the sediment. To investigate the occurrence of oil in the intestinal content of H. (H.) grisea, a N of 20 individuals was collected on the Salvador coast (BA) in October 2019 between the coordinates 12°57 ‘S / 38°20’ W. Of this total, 10 individuals were found dead in the environment and 10 collected alive, for comparison purposes. Of the individuals found dead, 40% were eviscerated (without intestines) and it was not possible to carry out content analysis. Of the 6 remaining dead individuals, 67% had oil in their intestinal contents. For the 10 live sea cucumbers collected, none was eviscerated and all had a full intestine, with oil being observed in the intestinal content of 1 specimen (10%). The χ2 test confirmed with α of 0.025 the possible relationship between oil and the mortality of H. (H.) grisea, demonstrating that the acute oil spill probably was lethal for this species on the northeastern coast of Brazil. Keywords: sea cucumber, hydrocarbons, PAHs.
