Despite knowledge and awareness of plagiarism among undergraduates through the teaching of related compulsory university course for all students as well as teaching of research methodology in various field in Nigeria universities, final year students sill found plagiarized while writing their research work. It was based on the above, that this study was design to explore the perception of the academic in Southwest Nigeria on the causes of plagiarism among final year undergraduates while writing their research project. The study makes use of descriptive survey research design of expo factor type where eighteen universities were selected with a total sample of 1,800. Data were collected through questionnaire and analysed using both the descriptive and quantitative analysis. The findings indicated among others that laziness, lack of knowledge about plagiarism, lack of experience among students in producing source-based writing and lack of adequate skill to write final year project were some of the perceived causes of plagiarism in project writing. Moreso, incompetent graduate, injustices in grading student's projects were some of the effect of plagiarism. Similarly, awareness campaign and theuse of plagiarism checker among others were some of the perceived measured that can be adopted in solving the menace of plagiarism among students.

Öğrencilerin intihal davranışları akademik çevreyi oldukça uzun süredir meşgul eden önemli bir konu olarak varlığını korumaktadır. Diğer taraftan, Covid-19 küresel pandemi sürecinde geleneksel eğitimden hızlı bir şekilde çevrim içi eğitime geçilmesi intihalin lisans öğrencileri arasında daha fazla artmasına yol açmıştır. Bu bağlamda lisans öğrencilerinin intihal davranışlarını önlemek için bazı tedbirlerin alınması daha da önemli hale gelmiştir. Amaç: Çalışmada, Bilgi ve Belge Yönetimi Bölümü (BBYB) dördüncü sınıf öğrencilerine intihal konusunda eğitim verilmesinin öğrencilerin bu konuda gelişim göstermesinde etkili olup olmadığının ortaya çıkartılması amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Çalışmada tek gruplu yarı deneysel desen kullanılmıştır. Veriler dört farklı ölçüm kullanılarak elde edilmiştir. Verilerin analizinde frekans, yüzde, ortalama hesapları yapılmış ve t-testi uygulanmıştır. Bulgular: Çalışmada kullanılan dört farklı ölçümün tümünde son testten alınan puanlarla ön testten alınan puanların ortalamaları arasında son testler lehine anlamlı fark tespit edilmiştir, cinsiyet ve yaş değişkenlerinin ise anlamlı farklılık oluşturmadığı bulunmuştur. Sonuç: Çalışmada intihal konusunda verilen dersin, öğrencilerin intihal bilgilerinde ve intihal bilgilerini uygulamaya dönüştürmelerinde istatistiksel olarak anlamlı ölçüde gelişmeyi sağladığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Özgünlük: Farklı disiplinlerde lisans öğrencilerinin intihal davranışlarını önlemeye yönelik eğitim verilmesi konusunda deneysel pek çok çalışma bulunurken, BBY alanındaki lisans öğrencilerine yönelik deneysel bir çalışmaya rastlanmamıştır. Bu bağlamda çalışma, alan yazındaki bu boşluğu doldurması ve bu konuda araştırma yapacaklara örnek olması bakımından önemli ve özgündür.

Preventing Visual Plagiarism in Design Programs in Higher Education Institutions: The Case of Ahlia University

Recently, the persistent problem in art and design programs in Worldwide universities are visual plagiarism. The main core values of academic institutions in general and Ahlia University is to produce graduates with not only good knowledge but also good values and high academic reputation that encourages intellectual and moral development promoting the image of their universities. Therefore, Ahlia university invests its efforts to create policies and procedures for text-based assignments to control originality of students’ work while handing in assignments, reports, research proposals, and dissertations by using software technology like Turnitin. Conversely, little has been done focused on non-textual materials in art and design education. Besides, there are a plethora of articles when searching the Scopus database, about text-based academic misconduct with a dearth of research devoted to visual plagiarism which often left to the experience of academic faculty. Therefore, the main purpose of this research is to shed light on students’ understanding of visual plagiarism issues and bridge the gap in visual work. Moreover, this research will develop a pedagogical policy that can be used by faculty to control academic dishonesty in visual arts. This research is conducting using two main methods. Firstly, it depended on reviewing different literature from journals, articles, and policies from different universities about plagiarism. Secondly, this research used qualitative and quantitative data. To collect qualitative data, an in-depth interview with the 15 academicians was conducted to triangulate with the students' findings of reasons of visual plagiarism and prevention solutions. For the quantitative data, an online survey using the Google form survey was used to a sample of 54 students in the design program at Ahlia University and other universities in Bahrain. Finally, this research reveals that the lack of awareness among students in arts and design education about academic integrity leads to visual plagiarism.
