O delineamento experimental utilizado … Show more

“…Linear increases in Si soil levels were verified as a function of slag doses applied to soil cultivated with sugarcane. In these work, one hundred and twenty days after the use of 100, 200 and 400 kg ha -1 Si, the total Si levels increased by 18, 56 and 72%, respectively (SOUSA;WANGEN, 2010). Comparative effect of silicate and limestone in sugarcane production showed that Si accumulation resulted in increased productivity, which was caused by reduction of transpiration and improvement of plant architecture.…”

“…Although the clay content of the soil is important for the reactivity of the applied silicate, the recovery of Si by sugarcane is also influenced by the experimental conditions. In sugarcane grown in pots (200 L) with sandy-loam soil, Sousa et al (2010) found a Si recovery index of 56.6, 35.8 and 25.8 %, after applications of 100, 200 and 400 kg ha -1 Si, respectively. However, Khalid et al (1978) found lower values of the recovery index of Si (10 %) after two crops (18 months) of sugarcane grown under field conditions in a clay soil with high oxide content.…”

“…Brassioli et al (2009) showed that silicate application provided the highest yield increase, more than lime in the third, fourth and fifth ratoon crops. However, only few studies have evaluated Si uptake at harvest or the recovery index of Si from the applied silicate (Khalid et al, 1978;Sousa et al, 2010), which is important to improve the sugarcane management in terms of Si fertilization.…”

“…There are several reports in the literature related to Si increase in crops with the use of steel slag, such as in rice crops (Barbosa Filho et al, 2004) and sugarcane plantations (Sousa et al, 2010).…”
