Application Possibility of Engine Drivers' Body Segments Ratios in Designing the Cab' Working Environment in Croatia

Abstract: A total of 25 anthropological measures important for the engine driver's cab design were taken from a sample of 51 male engine drivers from all parts of Croatia, out of which 5 and 95 percentiles along with central 90 % were determined. According to scientific findings that body height decreases with age, subjects were divided by age into four groups. Calculated arithmetic mean and harmonic mean of ratios hi/h for individual anthropological measures hi in relation to the standing height h are the same for all … Show more

“…Mean arithmetic values of body ratios h r /h and h š /h of all groups of respondents shown in Tables 5 and 6 are almost same with the mean arithmetic values of body ratios h r /h and h š /h of all four age groups for fifty one (51) researched engine drivers from Croatia, which were in the range from 27 to 56 years of age in 2015 [7]; and also those are almost the same with the mean arithmetic values of body ratios h r /h and h š /h of 68 female student from the University of Zagreb in 2016 (another sample from the same population) [8].…”

“…Mean arithmetic values of body ratios h mdr /h = 0.36 (ratio of maximum arm reach and body height) and h ndr /h = 0.2 (ratio of normal arm reach and body height) of all groups of respondents shown in Tables 5 and 6 are completely the same with the mean arithmetic values of body ratios h mdr /h and h ndr /h of all four age groups for fifty one (51) researched engine drivers from Croatia [7], and also those are completely the same with the mean arithmetic values of body ratios h mdr /h and h ndr /h of 68 female students from the University of Zagreb in 2016 (another sample from the same population) [8]. Generally considering, dynamic anthropometric measures, maximum arm reach h mdr and normal arm reach h ndr are linear functionalities depending on the standing body height h [7], and this fact can be the reason why those body ratios do not depend on the changes of body height depending on age.…”
