Application of Glycerol in the Synthesis of Hyperbranched and Highly Branched Polyethers: Characterization, Morphology and Mechanism Proposal

Abstract: Hyperbranched biopolymers is an important class of polymer that is used in different areas, mainly in biomedicine. AB 2 monomers are crucial to the development of a "hyperbranched" architecture of polyglycerol, being glycidol the most commonly used, even considering its environmental hazard. Glycerol carbonate is an ecologically accepted monomer synthesized directly from glycerol, and the chosen for the studies herein. In literature, no studies described the use of glycerol and cyclic carbonates to prepare hyp… Show more

“…Moreover, the Ar.HBPs synthesized in this paper presented a higher molecular mass in comparison to the literature. Higher value of PDI is justified by the fact that, higher the molecular mass, more the possibility of forming dispersed chains [54]. Ar.HBP-G4.…”

“…Inspired by these articles, polyglycerol, which contains multiple ethers and hydroxyl groups, may exhibit an outstanding performance as the head part of the dispersant. If so, this could become an alternative choice to produce dispersants in industry since polyglycerol is an economical and nontoxic biomass-derived product. , …”

“…If so, this could become an alternative choice to produce dispersants in industry since polyglycerol is an economical and nontoxic biomass-derived product. 17 In this study, a series of polyisobutylene-substituted succinic acid ester (PIBSAE) type dispersants were synthesized through the esterification reaction between PIBSA and polyglycerol. Besides, the effect of the molar ratio of the reactant and the degree of polymerization of polyglycerol on the component and structure of the dispersants were investigated using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) and gel permeation chromatography (GPC).…”
