“…Both the plants have potent molluscicidal and anticholinesterase activity against harmful snails and slugs (Panigrahi and Raut, 1994;Singh et al, 2000Singh et al, , 2004bSingh et al, , 2009Singh and Singh, 2003a). The toxicological actions of Thevetia peruviana may be due to the presence of apigenin-5-methyl ether (fl avonoid) and triterpenoid glycosides (Voigtlander and Balsam, 1970) while a number of alkaloids (pseudo-akuammigine in addition to betulin, ursolic acid and β-sitosterol), steroids and triterpenoids are present in Alstonia scholaris (Banerji and Banerji, 1977).…”

“…A downfield quaternary carbon (d C 120.1) of ketohexose C-2Љ should be linked to the C-2 oxygen-atom due to the absence of a free 2-OH in the 3) The NOESY spectrum (Fig. 2) showed cross peaks between protons at d 6.71 were due to the presence of protons at C-6, C-8 and C-3 in rings A and C of a vertiaflavone, respectively. Furthermore, two singlets at d H 3.90 (3H, s) and 10.26 (1H, s) were respectively assigned to protons of the methoxy group bonding to C-5 and the hydroxyl group bonding to C-4Ј of a vertiaflavone.…”

“…Esterified, hydroxylated and glycosylated flavans and flavanols, such as apigenin-5-methylether [41], glycosylated dimethoxyflavanones [42], sinapoyl and feruloyl esters of kaempferol and quercetin [10] have been identified in T. peruviana plants. These compounds are antioxidants [43] and some of them retain inhibitory activity of reverse transcriptase and integrase enzymes of HIV-1 [10].…”
