Antiplatelet Effects and Vasorelaxing Action of Some Constituents of Formosan Plants

Abstract: Various xanthones as well as quercetin have been shown to exhibit antiplatelet activity. A series of anthraquinones analogues structurally related to xanthones and a series of quercetin-related compounds were tested for their antiplatelet effects. Emodin, frangulin B, kaempferol tetraacetate, quercetin-3-O-galactoside octaacetate, rhamnazin triacetate, and rhamnetin tetraacetate were found to be potent antiplatelet agents, and 1,8-dihydroxy-6-methoxy-3-methylanthraquinone 8-O-rhamnosyl-(1-->2)-glucoside, rhamn… Show more

“…The present study demonstrates that CP-8-O-glc was the most potent of the four compounds examined, in terms of in- hibiting platelet aggregation, and suggests that it has therapeutic potential for the prevention of platelet hyperactivity-related cardiovascular diseases. In addition, in agreement with a previous study (22), emodin was found to have antiplatelet activity in the present study. Anthraquinone derivatives are considered to be the important constituent in this plant.…”

“…Rutin (Scheme 1) is a kind of flavonoid glycoside known as Vitamin P and has capacity in antiplatelet, antiviral, antihypertensive, and strengthing the capillaries of blood vessels [10,11], which are the results of its high radical scavenging activity and antioxidant capacity [12][13][14]. These properties are potentially beneficial in preventing diseases and protecting the stability of the genome.…”
