“…Lowering the levels of plasma and PMF cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol have been linked to a lower risk of cardiovascular disease. 32 Therefore, the results of the present study indicate that supplemented diets containing T. occidentalis may reduce the incidence of hypercholesterolemia and agree with the findings of Nityanand and Kapoor 33 and Sudheesh et al, 34 who reported the hypocholesterolemic effects of Commiphora mukul and Solanum melongena, respectively, in cholesterol-fed rats. The mechanism of this hypocholesterolemic action may be due to inhibition of the absorption of dietary cholesterol in the intestine or its production by the liver 35 or stimulation of the biliary secretion of cholesterol and cholesterol excretion in the feces.…”
