The incorporation of inorganic nanofillers into polymeric matrices represents an effective strategy for the development of smart coatings for corrosion protection of metallic substrates. In this work, wet-jet milling (WJM) exfoliation was used to massively produce few-layer hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) flakes as corrosion-protection pigment in polyisobutylene (PIB)-based composite coatings for marine applications. This approach represents an innovative advance in the application of two-dimensional (2D) material-based composites as corrosion protection systems at the industrial scale. Although rarely used as an organic coating, PIB was selected as a ground-breaking polymeric matrix for our h-BN-based composite coating thanks to its excellent barrier properties. The optimization of the coating indicates that 5 wt.% is the most effective h-BN content, yielding a corrosion rate of the protected structural steel as low as 7.4 × 10-6 mm year-1. The 2D morphology and hydrophobicity of the h-BN flakes, together with the capability of PIB to act as a moisture barrier, are the main reasons behind the excellent anticorrosion performance of our composite coating.

An environmental‐friendly composite material, combining polyvinyl butyral (PVB), 3‐hydroxy‐2‐naphthoic hydrazide (HNH) and poly (methylhydrosiloxane) (PMHS), was prepared by facile mechanical agitation. Hydrazide compounds were used into coating to improve anti‐corrosion capability of 304 stainless steel in different environments. The tested results of structure and surface morphology showed that components were uniformly dispersed into PVB, and prepared coating on substrate was smooth without cracks and holes. According to the results of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and potentiodynamic polarization, compared with other specimens, the parameters of PVB/HNH/PMHS coatings appeared as the downward change in corrosion current density (Icorr) and upward change in charge transfer resistance (Rct), which indicated that the PVB/HNH/PMHS had the best anti‐corrosion ability. The long‐term immersion test was processed in 3.5 wt.% NaCl solution at room temperature, which referred that the substrate was protected by PVB/HNH/PMHS coating more than 176 days. This work provides an ideal way of using hydrazide compounds to prevent metal corrosion.

(1) Background: Bacterial infections have long threatened global public safety; hence, it is significant to continuously develop antibacterial fibers that are closely related to people’s daily lives. Berberine hydrochloride is a natural antibacterial agent that has application prospects in the preparation of antibacterial fibers. (2) Methods: This study firstly verified the antibacterial properties of berberine hydrochloride and its possible antibacterial mechanism. Thereafter, berberine hydrochloride was introduced into the self-made melt-spun polyurethane fiber through optimized coating technology. The performance of coating modified polyurethane fiber has been systematically evaluated, including its antibacterial properties, mechanical properties, and surface wettability. (3) Results: Results show that the antibacterial polyurethane fiber with desirable comprehensive properties is expected to be used in the biomedical fields. (4) Conclusions: The research also provides a reference for the development and application of other natural antibacterial ingredients in fiber fields.
