Antibiotic management of complicated intra-abdominal infections in adults: The Asian perspective

Abstract: Regional epidemiological data and resistance profiles are essential for selecting appropriate antibiotic therapy for intra-abdominal infections (IAIs). However, such information may not be readily available in many areas of Asia and current international guidelines on antibiotic therapy for IAIs are for Western countries, with the most recent guidance for the Asian region dating from 2007. Therefore, the Asian Consensus Taskforce on Complicated Intra-Abdominal Infections (ACT-cIAI) was convened to develop upda… Show more

“…As a result, these two organisms are significant as causes of both community‐onset and hospital‐associated infections on a global scale . Extremely high rates have been reported in Asia, particularly in China (55%) and India (79%) . Although the frequency of isolation of these microorganisms in Brazil (10% for E. coli and 17% for K. pneumoniae ) is lower than that found in Asian countries, it is higher than in the United States and Europe .…”

“…Nas cirurgias contaminadas deve ser utilizada a antibioticoterapaia apenas durante o procedimento, obedecendo à meia-vida do fármaco utilizado. Dependendo da microbiota esperada, pode-se associar metronidazol, e em algumas situações pode ser mudado o esquema de profilaxia para cefoxitina (cirurgia de cólon) [14][15][16][17][18] .…”
