Antibacterial Properties of Sol-Gel Derived TiO2Nanoparticles

Abstract: Efficient synthesis of antibacterial and antifungal titanium dioxide nano powders offers new advanced properties and opportunities for industrial applications. In the present study, TiO2 nano particles were synthesized by solgel method using aqueous and alcoholic solutions of titanium tetraisopropoxide (TTIP). The effects of solvent type, support material (calcite, talk, zinc borate, silica) and drying temperature on antibacterial/antifungal and structural properties namely the average particle size and surfac… Show more

“…Titanium oxide (TiO 2 ) thin films, owing to their excellent properties including, chemical stability, low cost, large optical band gap and photocatalytic activity at visible light [1][2][3][4], have attracted much attentions in recent years. Metal and nonmetal doping of TiO 2 have been used to extend the absorption edge towards the visible light range and to improve the photocatalytic activity [5][6][7][8].…”

“…Metal and nonmetal doping of TiO 2 have been used to extend the absorption edge towards the visible light range and to improve the photocatalytic activity [5][6][7][8]. Several physical and chemical methods have been reported for growth of TiO 2 and doped-TiO 2 thin films [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]. In this work, nickel doped TiO 2 thin films were grown on glass substrates by means of DC reactive magnetron sputtering.…”

“…In recent years, many researchers have investigated the effect of Ag nanoparticles on properties of TiO 2 [9][10][11][12][13][14][15]. Sol-gel is a low temperature, chemical solution method [16][17][18], which is a proven conventional method for preparation of composite Ag-TiO 2 compound.…”

“…In recent years, many researchers have investigated the effect of Ag nanoparticles on properties of TiO 2 [9][10][11][12][13][14][15]. Sol-gel is a low temperature, chemical solution method [16][17][18], which is a proven conventional method for preparation of composite Ag-TiO 2 compound. In this work, we have prepared nanosized TiO 2 and Ag-TiO 2 powders by sol-gel process, using titanium iso-propoxide and silver nitrate as precursors and isopropanol as solvent. The effects of Ag on the morphology, crystallization and phase transition of TiO 2 nanoparticles were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and differential thermal analysis (DTA) techniques.…”

“…Sol-gel is one of these methods [4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12]. Besides sol-gel method there are many different ways for producing thin films, such as electron beam evaporation, metalorganic chemical vapor deposition method, atomic layer deposition, RF magnetron sputtering, thermionic vacuum arc and pulsed laser deposition [13,14].…”
