“…Furthermore, it has been reported that C. myrrha mediates its cytoprotective actions by suppressing NO production due to induction of HO-1 (Chen et al, 2005;Zhang et al, 2011). The GC-MS analysis that was carried out in our study indicated the presence of curezerine, deltaelemene, beta-elemene, 3-[(E)-2-phenyl-1-propenyl] cyc, bicycle [3.1.1]hept-2-ene-2-car, 8-isopropenyl-9-isopropyltetra, and 2,4-bis(3-methyl-1-pentynyl)-4, which were reported to have antioxidant, cytoprotective as well as anticancer properties (Fraternale et al, 2011;Marcotullio et al, 2011;Racine & Auffray, 2005). Liver histological changes to the inflammatory response such as fatty changes, focal central vein congestion, vocalization, necrosis, and loss of cellular boundaries were visible throughout many lobules in the D-GalN/LPS-administered group.…”

“…Previous phytochemical investigations of C. myrrha resin revealed that terpenoids were the characteristic constituents (Su et al, 2009). Moreover, it has been demonstrated that some of the extracts or active principles obtained from plants of the Burseraceae family have a broad spectrum of biological activities including anti-bacterial, anti-nociceptive, antiinflammatory, hepatoprotective, and anti-ulcer activity (Fraternale et al, 2011;Gowri Shankar et al, 2008).…”

“…After 4 weeks of treatment the wound healed completely. Although myrrh's exact role in wound healing is difficult to determine because of many confounding factors in this case report, data suggest there may be a potential role for topically applied products containing myrrh (Lotfy et al, 2006;Gallo et al, 1999;Fraternale et al, 2011). Also, it is not possible to make a direct correlation between the observed activity of the oleo-gum resins in vitro and the actual effects when used in vivo for the diseases observed by the indigenous people and traditional healers.…”

“…A recent review on the chemical constituents of the Lychnophorinae tribe has revealed significant variation in the occurrence of secondary metabolites in the genus Lychnophora [12]. Considering a single species, three phenomena can account for the observed differences: (a) accomplishment of a phytochemical investigation looking for a specific class of target secondary metabolites only, such as sesquiterpene lactones [13,14]; (b) performance of bioguided fractionation, which inspects a typical biological activity and may result in the isolation of a common class of secondary metabolites [15][16][17]; and (c) natural chemical variations in metabolism or presence of chemotypes [6][7][8]10].…”
