Anti-inflammatory and Antioxidant Activity of Peptides From Ethanol-Soluble Hydrolysates of Sturgeon (Acipenser schrenckii) Cartilage

Abstract: Research has shown that cartilage containing chondroitin sulfate and protein presents versatile bioactivities. Chondroitin sulfate in cartilage is beneficial to activate the immune system while the protein/peptide has not been fully understood. The current study investigated the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of ethanol-soluble hydrolysates of sturgeon cartilage (ESCH) prepared through hot-pressure, enzymatic hydrolysis and ethanol extraction. UV spectrum, IR and agarose gel electrophoresis resul… Show more

“…Superfluous ROS can destroy multifarious cellular components during the oxidative stress and further lead to apoptosis due to gene mutation, enzyme inactivation, and membrane potential reduction, which causes chronic maladies (62)(63)(64). Bioactive oligopeptides of FWKVV and FMPLH from papain hydrolysate of Miichthys miiuy muscle could prominently relieve the oxidative damage of HUVECs triggered by hydrogen peroxide because FWKVV and FMPLH could improve the activity of antioxidative enzymes and bring down the contents of NO, ROS, and MDA (19).…”

“…In the receiving process of sturgeon eggs, cartilage, which accounts for 10% of the sturgeon’s weight, becomes a by-product. Therefore, active substances in sturgeon cartilage, such as chondroitin sulfate [ 38 ], collagen [ 39 , 40 ], and anti-inflammatory peptides [ 41 ], were studied constantly to replace shark cartilage, which is used in health and functional products. The Siberian sturgeon, Acipenser baerii Brandt, inhabits large Siberian rivers from the Ob to the Kolyma and Lake Baikal, and it is one of the important breeding varieties in China.…”

“…The Western blotting experiment referred to previous studies and modified it appropriately ( 26 , 27 ). Trivially, hippocampal tissues were homogenized in 300 μL of radio-immunoprecipitation assay (RIPA) buffer containing phosphatase inhibitor and centrifuged at 10000 g for 12 min.…”
