Anisotropic magnetoresistance of thin La0.7Ca0.3MnO3films

Abstract: The low-field magnetoresistance of La 0.7 Ca 0.3 MnO 3 films deposited on different substrates has been measured. Whereas post-annealed films on SrTiO 3 and LaAlO 3 exhibit a clear anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR), the low-field magnetoresistance of as-deposited films on LaAlO 3 and Si is dominated by grain-boundary magnetoresistance. At low temperatures the anisotropic magnetoresistance is temperature independent with a value of about −0.2 ± 0.1%. A simple atomic d-state model can explain the sign of the a… Show more

“…It is worth pointing out that a clear variation of the value of the LFMR is observed depending on the direction of the measuring current with respect to the magnetic field ͑parallel or perpendicular to the field͒. The change observed is due to the well-known anisotropic magnetoresistance ͑AMR͒ and at RT amounts about 0.3% in agreement with previous results reported both in thin 19 and thick films. 20 On the other hand, a more relevant change of the RT magnetoresistance is found depending on the direction of the applied field with respect to the film plane ͑see Fig.…”

“…This also discards the contribution of the anisotropic magnetoresistance ͑AMR͒ of the individual ferromagnetic layers, known to be important in manganite singlelayer films. Nevertheless, the AMR shows up when the temperature is raised above the superconducting onset and it is in fact negative ͑larger dissipation when current is perpendicular to field͒ as previously found in manganite thin films 25 ͓see Fig. 1͑c͔͒.…”

“…2. The magnetic field measurement error (light gray area) was below 10% at fields stronger than 1.5 T. At weaker B-fields the error increases to 20% due to a low field anisotropy of the CMR-effect [6]. The simulation (dashed line in Fig.…”
