Anionic Surfactants

Abstract: The publisher's policy is to use permanent paper from mills that operate a sustainable forestry policy, and which has been manufactured from pulp processed using acid-free and elementary chlorine-free practices. Furthermore, the publisher ensures that the text paper and cover board used have met acceptable environmental accreditation standards. For further information on Blackwell Publishing, visit our Web site: www.blackwellpublishing.com ContentsContributors xi Preface xiii Glossary xv 1 What Are Surfactants?… Show more

“…Beyond agrochemical applications, the industrial use of several anionic surfactants, such as calcium dodecylbenzene sulfonate (Rhodacal 60/BE), sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate (Neopelex G-65), ammonium lauryl sulfate (ALS), and sodium lauryl sulfate, in the formulations of laundry detergents and cleaning supplies is also significant ( 58 , 72 , 80 ). Sulfonates are among the most widely used anionic surfactants in personal care and household products ( 81 , 82 ).…”

“…Although α‐MES was fundamentally studied in the 1950s (Weil et al, 1953; Weil and Stirton, 1956), it was only acknowledged as a class of surfactant in the 1980s (Hibbs, 2006). In the initial stages of development, α‐MES is associated with several limitations, mainly on its poor solubility, high tendency to hydrolyze, longer processing time, irritancy, dark color, and presence of skin sensitive components.…”

“…SDBS is one of the most commonly used anionic surfactants for cleaning application [32], and it is easy to manufacture, store, transport, and handle [32], which facilitate its application in microalgae production. The current price of SDBS is $1.4 per kilogram in China.…”
