Angiotensin-converting enzyme insertion/deletion gene polymorphisms associated with risk of atrial fibrillation: A meta-analysis of 23 case-control studies

Abstract: Aims: The renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system is important to the development of atrial fibrillation (AF). A lot of research has focused on the relationship between angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) insertion (I) /deletion (D) gene polymorphisms and AF, with inconsistent results. A meta-analysis was carried out to find the correlation between ACE I/D gene polymorphisms and AF. Methods: Data were extracted from articles published before September 2013 on ACE I/D polymorphisms and AF in Embase, PubMed, WanF… Show more

“…It is involved in the regulation of blood pressure and [Rigat et al, 1990]. Although this variant was primarily investigated in relation to cardiovascular diseases [Yang et al, 2013;Song et al, 2014;Zhao et al, 2014;Ma et al, 2015], cancer [Zhang et al, 2014] and diabetic nephropathy [Yu et al, 2012;Rahimi et al, 2014], some studies have also associated this gene polymorphism with various diseases in the oral cavity. In the Czech population, the D allele was previously found to be marginally risky for chronic periodontitis [Izakovicova Holla et al, 2001] and in the Korean population, the DD genotype has already been associated with chronic periodontitis [Kang et al, 2015].…”
