Anesthesia-related Cardiac Arrest

Abstract: As judged by an independent study commission, anesthesia-related cardiac arrest occurred in 37 of 160 cardiac arrests within the 24-h perioperative period.

“…Por otra parte, el Grupo EPiCOR (Evidence-based Peri-operative Clinical Outcomes Research), realizó un metanálisis donde se evidencia como al pasar el tiempo, la incidencia de mortalidad conexa con la anestesia ha disminuido progresivamente (7) lo que puede estar relacionado con mejoras en la tecnología biomédica, en los procedimientos, desarrollo de medicamentos con mejor perfil de seguridad, y la implementación de diferentes guías a nivel mundial (8,9) , donde se mejora el manejo del paciente en las Unidades de Cuidados Post-Anestésicos (UCPA). Pese a lo anteriormente mencionado, se siguen presentando casos de mortalidad en las UCPA, como se documenta en un estudio que se realizó en EEUU, donde se tomó una base de datos de diez años y se analizaron los paros cardiacos perioperatorios relacionados con la anestesia (10) . En este estudio se encontraron 66 paros cardiacos relacionados con la anestesia, de los cuales el 100% de los casos de UCPA estuvieron relacionados con problemas de la vía aérea y con narcosis.…”
