Anencephalus in the British Isles

Abstract: SUMMARY Official statistics relating to 3,175,161 (live and still) births and 6,431 anencephalics which occurred in the British Isles during the years 1965‐7 were analysed. The highest rate, 3–6 per 1,000 total births, was in Northern Ireland. In all areas, more anencephalics were born in winter than in summer.
