“…It was stated that the anterior surfaces of the femoral condyles in humans are oval and the posterior surfaces are spherical, which strengthens the stability in the extension and provides a wide range of motion in flexion (Aydın, 1998;Üstüner, 2006). In this study, conducted on wild boars, it was observed that the shape of the femoral condyles is compatible with the literature (Aydın, 1998;Schulze-Tanzil et al, 2020;Uslu, 2011;Üstüner, 2006). Uslu (2011) reported the medial condyle height 21-53 mm, lateral condyle height 18-50 mm and the distance between the condyles 13-31 mm.…”

“…In the literature, it was stated that the articular surface of the patella of human (Dere, 1999) and Aachen mini pigs (Schulze-Tanzil et al, 2020) was divided into two parts with a crest. While the lateral part of these parts was wider in humans (Dere, 1999), it was stated that there is no difference in the mini pig (Schulze-Tanzil et al, 2020). In our study, it was found that the joint surface was divided into two parts, as in the human and mini pig, and these parts were equal in width to each other, as in the Aachen minipig.…”

“…In addition, we used three female Aachen minipigs of 20 kg aged ∼8 months old (Carfil, Oud-Turnhout, Belgium). This is a well-established swine breed in research ( Pawlowsky et al, 2017 ; Schulze-Tanzil et al, 2020 ). All animals underwent an acclimatization period of 5 days minimum in the animal facility.…”

“…In this study, we developed analytical methods for determination of 3 -SL and 6 -SL in the liver and kidneys of Yucatan minipigs using LC-MS/MS with a simple pretreatment step. The minipig was chosen because it shares anatomical and physiological characteristics with humans, and also has similar biological systems and dietary habits [23].…”
