Analyzing Biological Properties of Some Plum Genotypes Grown in Turkey

Abstract: In the current study, the biochemical components, antioxidant activity, antibacterial activity, and antimutagenic activity of 5 plum (Demal, White Cancur, Cancur, Red plum, and Sugar plum) fruits grown in Posof/Ardahan, Turkey were investigated. While other genotypes are cultured, Demal genotype grows wild. The highest total ascorbic acid (TAC; 454 mg/100 g FW (fresh weight)) and total flavonoid content (TFC; 29.1 mg/100 g FW) were detected in Red plum genotype. The Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP) and… Show more

“…On the contrary, our data are lower than those found for P. divaricata "Demal" and P. domestica 'Sugar plum', with TPC values of 169.6 and 172.4 mg GAE/100 g, respectively [40]. TFC values from 12.1 to 29.1 mg rutin equivalent/100 g were found for 'Demal' and P. domestica 'Red plum', respectively [42]. TPC values ranging from 177-365 mg GAE/100 g were found for P. divaricate yellow and black, respectively [43].…”

“…The antibacterial activity of Prunus domestica fruits on both Gr (+) and Gr (-) bacteria was also proved in many studies. [33][34][35]. In addition, plum wine shows a significant cytotoxic effect on the growth of three cancer cell lines, i.e., Hep2c, RD, and L2OB [36].…”

“…The predominant fatty acids were as follows: linoleic, palmitic, and linolenic, which shows a resemblance with the kernels. The major fatty acids found in plums were linoleic, Cis-11-eicosanoic, and palmitic acids [23].…”
