Analytical and Preparative Chiral Separation of β-Carboline Derivatives, LDL Oxidation Inhibitors, Using HPLC and CE Methodologies: Determination of Enantiomeric Purity

Abstract: In the present study, baseline separation of the enantiomers of 16 b-carboline derivatives was successfully achieved using both capillary electrophoresis (CE) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) techniques in short run times (\15 min) and thus permit the determination of enantiomeric excess. In HPLC methodology, cellulose chiral stationary phase (Chiralcel OD-H) was used with a binary mobile phase constituted of n-hexane/ethanol 85/15 leading to a resolution factor of 12.6 in 15 min. Preparative … Show more

“…In another study, Lipka et al. used HS‐γ‐CD for the separation of 16 new synthesized chiral β‐carboline derivatives. These are compounds that are structurally related to melatonin, and they are proposed as possible antioxidants inhibiting the low‐density lipoprotein.…”

“…The technique with a major limitation on the volume injected hydrodynamically is NSS, because only a small amount of sample can be injected into the capillary without loss of resolution (typically <10% capillary length). Lipka et al evaluated the possibility of using NSS as preconcentration technique to study β‐carboline derivatives. In this case, NSS was performed by an injection of 50 mbar during 20 s for the chiral analysis of 16 β‐carboline derivatives.…”

“…Other reports focused on the enantioseparation of various classes of compounds such as β‐carboline derivatives , helquats , iodiconazol and other triadimenol analogs , antimalarics , and cathinone derivatives with different CDs. The main goal was the screening of different CD derivatives for the chiral separations in these studies.…”
