Analysis of Zinc in Biological Samples by Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometry: Use of Addition Calibration Technique

Abstract: The quantification of target analytes in complex matrices requires special calibration approaches to compensate for additional capacity or activity in the matrix samples. The standard addition is one of the most important calibration procedures for quantification of analytes in such matrices. However, this technique requires a great number of reagents and material, and it consumes a considerable amount of time throughout the analysis. In this work, a new calibration procedure to analyze biological samples is p… Show more

“…[18] Although it was not significant, some other studies demonstrated lower serum zinc level in patient with AGA in comparison to normal individuals. [2223] At animal experimental models, zinc has an ambivalent but potent modulator of murine hair growth and in chemotherapy induced alopecia, zinc significantly accelerates the re-growth of normally pigmented hair shafts and promotion of hair follicles recovery. [9] Zinc has been shown to have an antiandrogenic potential and it specifically inhibits 5α-reductase type 1 and 2 activity, thus promoting hair growth.…”

“…Measurement of zinc levels in serum using the Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS) method for its specificity, sensitivity, accuracy and less cost. 18 We begin with making a standard zinc solution of 1000 mg zinc/liter by diluting 10 mL of nitric acid to 50 mL by adding 1,000 g of zinc, diluting it again to 100 ml. As much as 1 mL of standard zinc mixed with a 5/95 to 100 mL glycerol water solution, shaken 16 times, then 1, 2, 3, 4 mL were taken into 100 mL volume flask and added with a 5/95 glycerol/water solution.…”

“…Num indivíduo saudável a excreção de Zn através da urina deve situar-se entre 300-600 μg/L. 32 A concentração de Zn diminui com o avançar da idade, havendo acentuado decréscimo a partir dos 75 anos de idade. Esta diminuição em doentes de Alzheimer aumenta a patologia amiloide.…”
