Analysis of the reliability of the fuzzy scale for assessing the students’ learning styles in Mathematics

Abstract: The reliability of the fuzzy scale for assessing the responses of a person in an opinion questionnaire (which is usually treated as a Likert-type questionnaire) is analyzed. Thus, a comparison between a classical Likert scale-based questionnaire and its fuzzy rating scale-based version in terms of their reliability is established. For this purpose, some questions of the Grasha-Riechmann student learning style scales have been answered by a group of students using both scales. Considering that the Likert versio… Show more

“…There have been several attempts to compare fuzzy rating and conversion scales with respect to more traditional rating methods. To this end, comparisons have been made based on hypothesis testing about means [64,65], descriptive summary measures [25], ratings accordance criterion in empirical and simulated context [66,67], scale reliability [68,69]. Other research used validated questionnaires to study the differences between traditional and fuzzy rating.…”

“…Many researchers have developed scales based on FSs theory and these scales have been implemented in various fields, for example, the service industry (Chou, Liu, Huang, Yih, & Han, 2011; Hu, Lee, & Yen, 2010), medical science (Li, 2013; Navarro, Wagner, Aickelin, Green, & Ashford, 2016), investment decisions (Massanet, Riera, Torrens, & Herrera‐Viedma, 2014), education system (Gil, Lubiano, de la Rosa de Sáa, & Sinova, 2015; Guajardo, Lopez, & Ruiz, 2015; Lubiano, de Saa, Montenegro, Sinova, & Gil, 2016; Lubiano, Salas, De Sáa, Montenegro, & Gil, 2017), and public administration (Marasini, Quatto, & Ripamonti, 2016). FSs theory also has been used effectively in a great variety of fields for modeling humans' feeling of words for product design (De La Rosa De Sáa et al, 2015; Shimizu & Jindo, 1995).…”
