Analysis of the Psychometric Properties of the Spanish Version of the Trait Meta-Mood Scale in a Sports Context

Abstract: The purpose of the present research was to analyze the psychometric properties of the Trait Meta-Mood Scale (TMMS) in sport context. The TMMS is a 24-item self-report measure that assesses perceived emotional intelligence, which is the extent to which people believe they pay attention to their emotions and are capable of distinguishing and regulating them. Participants were 368 athletes (257 male, 111 female; M age=21.4 yr., SD=5.5; range=14-40). Factor validity was tested via Confirmatory Factor Analysis. Bas… Show more

“…Importantly, researchers have explored whether the questionnaires used to measure trait EI can be validated in athletic populations. Confirmatory factor analyses have supported the factor structure of the TMMS (Martin‐Albo et al., ) and the TEIQue (Laborde et al., ) in sport performers. Some concerns were raised regarding the factor structure of the Bar‐on EQ‐I (Stanimirovic & Hanrahan, ), as well as in relation to particular items of the Schutte EI Scale (Lane et al., ), but a short version of the scale (BEIS‐10) demonstrated adequate fit indices in a student–athlete sample (Davies et al., ).…”

“…Furthermore, we tested a model integrating acceptance, rejection, relatedness need and repair to predict loneliness in adolescents longitudinally. In addition to previous research, recently, Martin‐Albo, Núñez, and León () in a cross‐sectional integration found relations between theoretical components. Based on these authors’ results we expected to additionally find (e) a positive association between repair and relatedness.…”
