Analysis of the Effectiveness of Wastewater Treatment in Activated Sludge Technology with Biomass Recirculation

Abstract: In the operation of a wastewater treatment plant, the key challenge for the operator is to obtain parameters of the treated wastewater required by relevant legal acts. Meeting these requirements is possible through the use of an appropriate technology and real-time automation of control and monitoring processes. The paper examines the results of laboratory tests of selected wastewater parameters in terms the content of organic substances and nutrients in order to determine the efficiency of wastewater treatmen… Show more

“…The residues of veterinary medicines administered to domestic animals which are released into the soil and aquatic environment also deserve attention. Pharmaceuticals are also discharged into the environment with wastewater from production facilities and excreta from livestock, which is why their effective treatment is so important (Ciuła, 2022, Ciuła et al, 2019. Animals treated with antibiotics excrete their active form.…”

“…Once a layer has been laid, a compactor is used to compact the waste. The thickness of one layer after compaction does not exceed 1.8 m. Once a layer of compacted waste has been formed, a transfer layer measuring about 0.20-0.30 m and made of inert materials is also created [33,34].…”

“…Mechanical and biological wastewater treatment processes, which are essential for the production of wastewater sludge for the fermentation process, are usually energy-intensive. This fact means that most entities who manage wastewater treatment plants make decisions, already at the design stage of the treatment plant, to build a biogas production installation for energy generation purposes [Ciuła, 2022;Pittmann and Steinmetz, 2017]. In this way, a wastewater treatment plant becomes a producer and consumer of renewable energy, satisfying its internal energy needs and striving to close the socalled waste-to-energy loop [Garrido-Baserba et al, 2014; Kozłowski and Ignatowicz, 2021].…”
