AbstractThe influence of the cargo weight loaded on the vehicle and the total gross mass of the vehicle on the braking characteristics is often researched from the road safety reason. However, there is not enough knowledge about the influence of weight and load distribution on the loading area of small trucks or vans on their braking characteristics. This article presents the results of measurements of braking decelerations of the van of N1 category and the braking characteristics of a vehicle loaded with different cargo mass with different cargo locations on the loading area. The impact of the longitudinal cargo position on the loading area on the load of the individual axles and thus on the braking deceleration of the vehicle was investigated. The influence of the height of the center of gravity on the dynamic axle load during braking was also determined. Method of direct vehicle deceleration measurement was used by a decelerometer. There were calculated cargo weight and cargo position influences on the dynamic axle load during braking according to the vehicle deceleration.

There are also the vehicles among the other vehicles in road traffic that have been modified without being authorised by their producer. These also include modifications such as structural modifications in the vehicle break system. Besides a brake system of road motor vehicles is one of the main factors influencing the active safety of vehicles. The design of the brake system, its technical condition and additional intervention in its construction may have a positive as well as negative impact on the braking distance length and the value of the mean braking deceleration achieved. The paper focuses on the influence of the brake disc diameter of the front axle on the achieved value of the mean braking deceleration and the braking distance length, while the braking system has been modified for several times without being approved by car manufacturer. The introductory part of the paper describes the braking distance sections and it also explains the term of mean braking deceleration. The following part of the paper deals with the measurement methodology, measuring equipment and the vehicle used during the measurements as well as procedures employed. The results obtained from the measurements are processed and presented in tables and also in graphs for greater clarity. The final part of the paper summarizes and evaluates the measured results. The importance of the paper lies in quantification of the influence of brake discs with different diameters on the vehicle active safety in the case of a particular vehicle.

Using a cellular automaton model, this paper studied the evolution mechanism of traffic incidents affecting the capacity of urban expressway under the mixed traffic environment of manual driving and automatic driving. It showed that the length of the automated-driving early-warning zone could affect the capacity of expressway. Specifically, the early-warning zone is divided into an accelerate lane-changing area, a decelerate lane-changing area, and a forced lane-changing area. The areas vary according to the distance between the vehicle and the location of incident. Based on the study, this paper establishes a codirectional two-lane cellular automaton model. The analysis showed that the capacity of the urban expressway varies under different combinations of early-warning area length and division ratio of early-warning zone. In the case of two-lane reduction caused by traffic incidents, the capacity of the expressway is optimized when the length of early-warning zone is between 450 and 600 m, and the ratio of accelerate zone, decelerate zone, and forced zone to the length of early-warning zone is, respectively, 75%, 10%, and 15%. In addition, this study showed that the capacity will rise with the increase in automated vehicles.
