Analysis of FRP bars used as reinforcement in concrete structures

Abstract: Abstract. In the design and construction of building and engineering structures, it is of utmost importance to provide their reliability and safety. The use of FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymers) bars as reinforcement of structural concrete elements could help reducing the typical defects of reinforced concrete and increase its strength parameters. In the paper the selected FRP bar characteristic properties are presented and advantages derived therefrom are specified. Furthermore, the most commonly used in constru… Show more

“…2-Use concrete's compressive strength (20,60) MPa.3-Strengthened B2, B3 with (GFRP, CFRP) NSM U-stirrups. The elastic response of CFRP and GFRP NSM-stirrups was chosen as the basic physical and mechanical properties of FRP reinforcement based on product data sheets and American design criteria [17]. Table 2 shows steel and FRP bar plastic and elastic properties.…”

“…Concerning steel reinforcement, the recycling process cannot be done unless the reinforcement is separated from the concrete. In the case of FRP reinforcement, a significant advantage is that concrete can be crushed with the bars inside; consequently, there is no need to remove them [ 5 ]. As an example, the environmental benefits to be gained from precast basalt fiber reinforced polymer (BFRP) reinforced concrete beams are highlighted in [ 6 ].…”

“…The range of mineral additives to concrete has been extended of new types of materials and wastes. On the basis of the subject literature, the following substances are used in the production of concrete mix: volatile ashes, silica fumes, ground blast furnace slag, biofuel ashes (Jura and Ulewicz, 2018;Halbiniak, 2012;Jura and Ulewicz, 2017), and polymers and polymer wastes (Albano, 2009;Mounanga, 2008;Pietrzak and Ulewicz, 2018;Brózda, and Selejdak, 2016;Janecka and Siemiątkowski, 2012). The present article focuses on the quality of concrete, to whose production slag, achieved from wastewater sludge incineration in fluidized-bed furnace in sewage treatment plants, was used.…”
