Analysis of Chinese donors' return behavior

Abstract: Background It is important to understand donor return behavior. Converting first time donors to become repeat donors is essential for maintaining an adequate blood supply. “…Other studies however, have shown higher rates of blood donation in other countries. For example, the percentage of people who had donated blood more than once in a year was reported to be 30.8% in Brazil (25), and 64% in China (26). In our study, 253 participants (35.3%) had low awareness, 352 participants (49.2%) had moderate awareness, and 111 participants (15.5%) had good awareness of blood donation.…”

This study identified risk factors for becoming a lapsed donor 4 years after the initial donation, considering donor sex, age, employment status, having moved, first year donation frequency, dissatisfaction with the last donation experience, lack of social ties, and the access to competing blood services.…”

“…Several studies showed that the risk of becoming a lapsed blood donor is highest at the start of the donor career and decreases significantly after the 3rd or 4th donation [12,13]. A considerable percentage of lapsed donors at each blood service is likely to have only few donations [5].…”

“…The literature shows that factors associated with the return of a blood donor for further donations are Rh factor, 8 age,8., 9. education,8., 9., 10. and gender 9 . In addition, some authors have also highlighted the need to pay attention to the physical effects of blood donation, 10 as uncomfortable reactions are associated with a lower probability to return for further donations 11., 12..…”
