OBJECTIVE: In Indonesia, stunting is a nutritional problem that is a threat to the growth and development of toddlers since the beginning of life. The total stunting of children under-five in 2018 in Palu city was 30.8%. Hence, it is necessary to strengthen the system that supports the determination of continued government policies in achieving a reduction in the incidence of stunting. METHODS: A case control with research subjects totaling 520 toddlers. The sampling technique used was proportional stratified random sampling at all Puskesmas Kota Palu. RESULTS: There is a multifactorial relationship between knowledge variables (p = 0.019), children have been sick (p = 0.000), mother’s height (p = 0.050), and mother’s education (p = 0.000) against the incidence of stunting. Low knowledge has a chance of 1.581 times and the status of the child having been sick has a chance of 9.166 times the incidence of stunting. CONCLUSION: Multiple factors play a role in causing stunting in the city of Palu. Analysis of factors related to the incidence of stunting in children under-five in the working area of the Palu City Health Center is considered necessary in supporting the government in determining policies to tackle stunting problems.

Diarrhea is still a health threat because it causes illness and death, especially in toddlers. Diarrhea will increase due to consuming food contaminated with microorganisms, including through the intermediary of flies. The use of chemical pesticides can impact vector resistance, non-target insects, and health problems. The study aimed to evaluate plants effective as bioinsecticides to control house fly (Musca domestica). The study used a completely randomized design factorial. House flies from residential areas are rearing in two stages. Three types of plant leaves (Averrhoa bilimbi, Catharanthus roseus, and Annona muricata) were extracted, and their effectiveness was tested through a bioassay-test. The experiment was carried out in two replications, at various doses (25, 30, 35, 40%) and contact time (15, 30, 60 min). The study found that the mortality of houseflies on exposure to Averrhoa bilimbi leaf extract (67.25), Catharanthus roseus (86.75), soursop (97.25). The treatments showed a significant effect on mortality (P < 0.05), with the highest level of effectiveness at a dose of 25%, for 15 min. Flavonoids are believed to be the compounds responsible for the death of flies.

WHO menyatakan diare sebagai ancaman kesehatan. Di Indonesia, hingga saat ini diare masih menjadi masalah kesehatan masyarakat. Prevalensi diare di Provinsi Lampung tahun 2018 sebesar 4,51% menyebar di setiap kabupaten / kota. Peningkatan penyakit diare terjadi karena mengkonsumsi makanan yang tercemar oleh mikroorganisme melalui perantara lalat. Hingga saat ini belum ada penelitian yang dilakukan untuk menguji efektifitas berbagai tanaman dalam mengendalikan lalat rumah (Musca domestica). Penelitian bertujuan mendapatkan bahan aktif potensial sebagai bioinsectisida berbasis tanaman dan membuktikan bahwa bahan aktif pada tanaman dapat digunakan sebagai bioinsectisida untuk mengendalikan lalat. Tahapannya adalah ekploring bahan aktif pada tanaman, penentuan tanaman dengan kandungan bahan aktif tertinggi, dan uji coba ektrak tanaman terhadap mortalitas lalat. Penelitian ini merupakan eksperimen dengan rancangan faktorial. Variabel yang dikaji adalah konsentrasi dan waktu kontak terhadap kematian lalat dengan dua kali pengulangan.
