An investigation on the active control strategy for a high-speed pantograph using co-simulations

Abstract: The article presents simulation results on the active control strategy for a railway pantograph to improve contact quality in pantograph–catenary interface. Three different approaches were investigated: nominal torque tuning, torque active control and combination of them—combined control approach. The first control scenario minimizes the pantograph nominal uplift force exerted on the catenary. The second approach is based on active pantograph toque control, employing the proportional–integral–derivative contro… Show more

“…is simplification is widely accepted as it can accurately describe the response at 0-20 Hz, which is specified to be the frequency of interest in En 50367 [19]. e advanced multibody pantograph model has been developed by some scholars [20,21] to represent the physical configuration, which is of great importance to optimize the parameters [22], develop the controllers [23], and test passive dampers [24] for a better current collection quality. Apart from the simulation in ideal working conditions, the environmental perturbations and the pantograph-catenary errors are appropriately modelled to investigate their effect on the current collection quality.…”

“…The pantograph is normally modelled by a lumped-mass model which can reflect the first two or three critical modes [14,15]. Some multibody dynamics models of pantograph are also developed to reproduce a realistic geometry [16][17][18]. Some realistic disturbances, such as the wear [19], the irregularity [20,21], the geometrical deviation [14] and the vehicle perturbations [22], are properly modelled and included in the numerical model to evaluate the contact forces.…”
