“…In the KEGG network pharmacology analysis, gastritis-related genes were associated with nine pathways. Among them, the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway and NF-kB-mediated signaling pathway were closely correlated with the pathogenesis of gastric disease and intestinal mucosal injury [51]. A. rugosa extract effectively reduced NO and NF-κB expression compared with LPS-treated control (Figure 3).…”

“…Based on the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theory, UC consists of several types of TCM syndromes, the most common of which (34.8%) being damp-heat accumulation syndrome (DHAS) ( Ye et al, 2010 ). Radix Sophorae flavescentis (Kushen) is a monarch herb in TCM formulations (Kushen-based TCM formulations) used for the treatment of UC with DHAS which has achieved good effectiveness in clinical practice and effect studies ( Tong et al, 2010 ; Tong et al, 2011 ; Gong et al, 2012 ; Fang et al, 2018 ; Chen et al, 2020 ). Kushen mainly contains the components matrine and oxymatrine , which are active ingredients against UC with significant inhibitory effects on invasive microbial populations such as Escherichia coli and Proteus mirabilis, as well as immunosuppressive effects against IL-1β and IL-17 in the intestinal epithelium ( Lin et al, 2019 ; Xu et al, 2019 ; Ding et al, 2020 ).…”

“…Additionally, network pharmacology was used to determine which genes correlated with Alzheimer’s disease, for the purpose of finding potential signaling pathways and novel compounds ( Yi et al, 2020 ). Network pharmacology analysis was also used to find various active compounds for treating ulcerative colitis that contained formononetin, kushenol N, and kuraridin, to lay the foundation for studying the disease ( Chen et al, 2020 ). Overall, the study of network pharmacology can preliminarily predict the component monomers and disease targets of TCM to lay a foundation for elucidating the therapeutic mechanism of TCM, and it also can be applied in the study of EAE.…”

“…There have been many studies of the treatment of EAE by TCM monomers containing flavonoids, phenol, and glycosides, among others ( Ciumărnean et al, 2020 ; Ikram et al, 2020 ; Yang L. et al, 2020 ). Moreover, many researchers have studied the effect of chemical monomers by molecular docking, high-throughput screening, and network pharmacology ( Chen et al, 2020 ; Liu J. et al, 2020 ; Xu et al, 2020a ). Over the past 8 years, glycosides have been the most commonly studied compounds, and have been examined and developed with the intent of using them as a potential treatment for EAE ( Giacoppo et al, 2013 ; Yin et al, 2014 ; Haghmorad et al, 2017 ; Madhu et al, 2019 ; Yang L. et al, 2020 ).…”
