An Electrochemical Sensor for Determination of Ultratrace Cd, Cu and Hg in Water Samples by Modified Carbon Paste Electrode Base on a New Schiff Base Ligand

Abstract: This paper describes the preparation and electrochemical application of a new chemically modified electrode for simple and highly sensitive simultaneous determination of copper, mercury and cadmium using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). Firstly, a new bis‐Schiff base ligand, 2,2′‐((pyridine‐2,6‐diylbis (azanylylidene)) bis (methanylylidene))bis(4‐bromophenol) (ligand L) has been synthesized by reaction of the 2,6‐diamino pyridine with 5‐bromo salicylaldehyde or salicylaldehyde … Show more

“…AAS is a very sensitive method; however, it has many disadvantages including cost and inability to be miniaturized. In contrast, electrochemical methods are low cost and can be applied in situ [ 1 , 3 , 11 , 12 , 13 ]. The gold standard of electrochemistry is to perform a measurement with a mercury drop electrode.…”

“…Therefore, we also evaluated the performance of our system for the simultaneous electroanalytical determination of lead, cadmium, zinc, and copper using carbon DEP chips and arsenic and mercury using gold DEP chips. The application of chemically-modified carbon working electrodes has provided the simultaneous detection of heavy metals in water samples with enhanced specificity [ 28 , 29 ]. Bismuth is an environmentally-friendly element with a property to form “fused alloys” with heavy metals which facilitates the nucleation process during accumulation of heavy metals.…”
