DEP-On-Go for Simultaneous Sensing of Multiple Heavy Metals Pollutants in Environmental Samples

Abstract: We describe a simple and affordable “Disposable electrode printed (DEP)-On-Go” sensing platform for the rapid on-site monitoring of trace heavy metal pollutants in environmental samples for early warning by developing a mobile electrochemical device composed of palm-sized potentiostat and disposable unmodified screen-printed electrode chips. We present the analytical performance of our device for the sensitive detection of major heavy metal ions, namely, mercury, cadmium, lead, arsenic, zinc, and copper with d… Show more

“…A localized surface plasmon band of AuNPs can be utilized as a platform for studying chemical and biological reactions [ 3 ]. Plasmonic nanoparticles have been introduced to study heavy metal pollutants [ 4 , 5 , 6 ]. Detailed molecular interactions between organic compounds and metal atoms can be estimated with a combination of quantum-mechanical density functional theory (DFT) calculations [ 7 , 8 ].…”

“…The bioavailability of such metallic trace elements (zinc, lead, and cadmium) in soil was efficiently analyzed using biosensors (Hurdebise et al 2015). Disposable electrode printed (DEP)-On-Go is a handheld device that offers simple and affordable detection of multiple trace heavy metals in field, water, or food samples (Biyani et al 2017).…”

“…Arsenic (As) ions are highly toxic chemical species that can cause peripheral neuropathy, skin lesions, diabetes, renal system problems, cardiovascular disease, cancer, and eventually death when exposed to the human body [1,2,3,4,5,6]. As ions occur naturally in two oxidation states of the trivalent arsenite (As 3+ ) and pentavalent arsenate (As 5+ ) types.…”
