An Efficient Ensemble VTOPES Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Model for Sustainable Sugarcane Farms

Abstract: The role of Information Technology based decision models for sustainable agriculture has gained immense prominence in recent years. Ranking of agriculture farms based on their yield plays a vital role in sustainable agriculture. In this work, an ensemble decision-making model, namely VIKOR (Vlsekriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje), TOPSIS (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to an Ideal Solution), entropy, and standard deviation (VTOPES), is proposed for ranking the sustainable sugarcane … Show more

“…Deepa et al [ 10 ] used the methods VIKOR (Multicriteria Optimization and Compromise Solution), TOPSIS (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to an Ideal Solution), entropy, and standard deviation (VTOPES) for ranking sustainable farms for sugar cane production. Dooley et al [ 11 ] discussed MCDA methods and their application in agriculture on the example of three case studies and provided guidelines on how these methods can be used in agriculture.…”

“…Detailed information on both ensemble modes can be referred to in Yu et al (2018). Other ensembles or MCDM schemes proposed in the works of literature are such as VTOPES, an abbreviation for 'VIKOR, TOPSIS Entropy, Standard deviation' (Deepa et al 2019), AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) by Saaty (2004), ELECTRE (ELimmination and Choice Expressing REality) by Roy (1991) and Delphi method (Khorramshahgol and Moustakis 1988). Another recent ensemble method applied for performance criteria analysis is based on Deep Statistical Comparison, DSC Kovec 2019, Eftimov et al 2020).…”

“…In the development of the decision model, AHP and Rank sum methods are subjective weight assignment methods that calculate weights based on expert input. Further, CRITIC and SD methods are objective weight calculation methods that determine weights through mathematical analysis [6]. A model was developed for susceptibility mapping of floods using Geographical Information System and MCDM approaches.…”

“…In order to provide better recommendations from land suitability analysis to yield prediction, multiple criteria about each area should be considered [5], [6]. For instance, apart from the major factors to be considered such as soil, water, fertilizer, seasonal changes some other factors such as distance from agricultural land to research institute, extension centres, markets, agro centres, roads, and seed processing plans should be taken into account.…”
