A B S T R A C TThe objective of this research was to evaluate the internal thermal environment of two broiler barns featuring different ventilation systems representative of Brazilian and South American poultry production industry: (a) a negative-pressure tunnel and (b) a positivepressure lateral ventilation system. Environmental parameters such as dry bulb temperature, relative humidity and temperature-humidity index were assessed; temperature maps for day and night average conditions were determined for the first three weeks of life. Better uniformity of the thermal environment and comfort conditions inside the negative-pressure tunnel were found.Ambiente térmico em dois galpões de frangos de corte nas três primeiras semanas de vida R E S U M O Objetivou-se, nesta pesquisa, avaliar o ambiente térmico interno de dois galpões de frangos de corte com diferentes sistemas de ventilação representativos da indústria de produção de aves de corte brasileira e sul-americana: (a) um com pressão negativa tipo túnel e (b) outro com ventilação lateral e pressão positiva. Parâmetros ambientais do conforto térmico, tais como temperatura de bulbo seco, umidade relativa e índice de temperatura e umidade, foram avaliados; mapas de temperaturas médias para as condições de dia e noite foram determinadas nas três primeiras semanas de vida das aves. Melhor uniformidade ambiental e condições de conforto térmico no interior do galpão com pressão negativa foram observadas.

A B S T R A C TThe aim of this study was to use computational fluids dynamics (CFD) to evaluate hygiene and comfort conditions in function of temperature level and ammonia (NH 3 ) concentration during the night in commercial poultry houses used in Brazil and countries with tropical and subtropical climates. Four models with different curtain heights and different air inlet and outlet positions were used, adopting the open building typology without thermal insulation. The validated CFD model did not present statistical differences from the experimental data, making it possible to use this model to predict the behavior in the four proposed cases. This model can be used to improve the internal conditions of the poultry facilities during the night and could be an important tool to reduce energy consumption and generate better conditions for animal production of chicks over 21 days old.Uma abordagem em DFC para avaliar os efeitos das diferentes combinações de abertura em aviários R E S U M O O objetivo deste trabalho foi utilizar a dinâmica de fluidos computacional (DFC) para avaliar as condições de higiene e conforto, em função dos níveis de temperatura e concentração de amônia (NH 3 ) durante a noite, em galpões avícolas comerciais no Brasil e em países com climas tropicais e subtropicais. Para isto, foram utilizados quatro modelos com diferentes posições de altura, cortina com entrada e saída de ar adotando a tipologia de instalação aberta, sem isolamento térmico. O modelo em DFC validado não apresentou diferenças estatísticas com os dados experimentais, o que torna possível usá-lo para prever o comportamento dos quatro casos propostos. Este modelo pode ser usado para a melhoria da condição interna das instalações de aves durante a noite podendo, também, ser uma ferramenta importante para reduzir o consumo de energia e criar melhores condições para a produção de aves com idade superior a 21 dias de idade.

RESUMO:Devido às ocorrências dos vírus de influenza aviária (H5N1 e H7N2), estudos relacionados à biosseguridade têm-se intensificado, e uma das soluções discutidas é o uso de tela para cercar completamente o perímetro dos galpões, visando a evitar o contato das galinhas poedeiras alojadas com outras aves. Desta forma, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar e comparar a utilização de tela cercando o perímetro de galpões convencionais de poedeiras, sobre o ambiente acústico e aéreo no interior da instalação. A pesquisa foi realizada em uma granja comercial para produção de ovos, localizada no sul do Estado de Minas Gerais, e foi conduzida em um galpão aberto, que teve a metade de sua área cercada por tela e a outra metade mantida totalmente aberta. Foram alojadas galinhas poedeiras da linhagem Hyline W-36, sendo analisadas as variáveis de intensidade sonora, concentração de amônia (NH 3 ) e concentração de dióxido de carbono (CO 2 ). As variáveis foram coletadas em seis pontos de medição, em cada região (com e sem tela), dois em cada corredor (norte, central e sul). Os resultados indicaram que o uso de tela não alterou o nível de ruído e as concentrações de NH 3 e de CO 2 no interior do galpão analisado. Contudo, os níveis mensurados foram inferiores àqueles que ofereceriam riscos à saúde das aves e dos trabalhadores, podendo-se concluir que o uso de tela não influenciou negativamente no ambiente aéreo do galpão. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS IN A CONVENTIONAL SCREENED POULTRY SHEDABSTRACT: Avian influenza viruses (H5N1 and H7N2) triggered a great number of studies on biosafety, and one of the discussed solutions is the use of screen to enclose completely the poultry house perimeter, since it can avoid the contact of laying hens with other birds. Thus, the present study aimed to evaluate and compare the use of screen enclosing a conventional laying house perimeter by assessing acoustic and aerial environment inside the facility. The research was performed in a commercial egg production farm located in Southern Minas Gerais State, Brazil. It was carried out in an open facility, in which half area was enclosed by screen and the other half was maintained completely open. Hyline W-36 laying hens were housed. Sound intensity, ammonia concentration (NH 3 ) and carbon dioxide concentration (CO 2 ) were analyzed as variables. These variables were collected from six measuring points in each region (with and without screen), two in each alley (north, central and south). The results indicated that the use of screen did not alter the noise level, NH 3 and CO 2 concentrations inside the analyzed poultry house. However, the levels measured were smaller than to the thresholds that can offer health risks to birds and workers. Therefore, it may be concluded that the use of screen did not influence negatively the facility aerial environment.
