Palavras-chave: ambiente térmico, avicultura de corte, qualidade do ar Evaluation of minimal ventilation and animal performance of broiler chickens in poultry houses during winterABSTRACT -The objective of this work was to evaluate a system of minimal or hygienic ventilation and its influence on thermal comfort, air quality and broiler zootechnical performance of poultries raised during the winter. Two similar sheds were used, with 9,500 Cobb broiler chickens per shed, during a complete productive cycle. In one of the sheds, a positive ventilation system that met minimal need of air renovation, composed by three fans with flow of 300 m 3 /min, was installed on the ceiling parallel to the floor. The other shed was considered control and did not have a ventilation system. For the first two weeks of age of the broilers, temperature and air relative humidity differed, and the system with minimal ventilation showed the worst comfort conditions. Broilers kept in no ventilation system showed the best results for slaughter weight (with ventilation -1.549; with no ventilation -1.577 kg), food conversion (with ventilation -1.63 kg/kg and with no ventilation -1.59 kg/kg) and productive efficiency (with ventilation -285 and without ventilation -297). There were some differences for concentration of contaminant gases, which were lower in the system with minimal ventilation. The system with minimum ventilation, the way...
Thus, environmental factors stand out to infer, directly, in the growth, on the performance and maintenance of life of these animals. Based on these considerations, the aim of this study was to study the effect of three different systems of minimum ventilation (positive pressure, negative and natural) on environmental variables (air temperature, relative humidity and wind velocity) of broiler sheds during the heating phase. According to results obtained, it was verified that the heating system used was inadequate to maintain the air temperature and relative humidity within the standards deemed appropriate, thus exposing the birds to periods of heat stress by cold. In contrast, there were negative influences regarding ventilation rates applied to the two ventilation systems positive and negative. Wind velocity also remained at levels considered non-stressful for young chickens.
ABSTRACT:To maintain a competitive development of the Brazilian aviculture, some measures must be taken to enable the identification and reduction of risks to the health of birds, as well as for the physical environment. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of three different systems of minimum ventilation (positive pressure -SVMP, negative pressure -SVMN and natural ventilation -SVMNat) in the air quality during the first 21 days of life of broiler chicks, during winter. Three points were selected along the length to verify ammonia, carbon monoxide and oxygen concentrations at 3a.m., 9a.m., 3p.m. and 9p.m., by the respiration level of birds and workers. The averages of pollutant gases did not exceed the tolerance levels for the three minimum ventilation systems evaluated, which is 20 and 10ppm for the birds level and 20 and 39ppm for the workers level, for ammonia and carbon monoxide, respectively. It was evident that the minimum ventilation systems were appropriately sized for the required minimum ambient air renovation, in respect to ventilation rates applied for the SVMN and SVMP systems, and with air velocity at levels that do not stress the chicks, including for the SVMNat. The three studied systems of minimum ventilation allowed the birds to externalize their productive performance, with values close to the ones considered satisfactory for all evaluated parameters, in accordance with the Brazilian aviculture standards.KEYWORDS: aviculture, broiler chicks, gas concentration, air renovation.
