Alveolar Ridge and Sinus Augmentation Utilizing Platelet‐Rich Plasma in Combination With Freeze‐Dried Bone Allograft: Case Series

Abstract: These clinical and histological findings suggest that ridge augmentation and sinus grafting with FDBA in combination with PRP provide a viable therapeutic alternative for implant placements. Future studies are necessary to determine whether PRP enhances new bone formation or maturation with bone replacement allografts.

“…The biological and mechanical effects of such treatments remain to be completely characterised. The isolation of platelet-rich plasma is by no means a new idea [32,37,40]. This concept has been recently reintroduced in alveolar bone regeneration [1,32] and bone grafts [34].…”

“…It is known that platelets are a source of several growth factors, among which are; PDGF [1][2][3][4] , TGF-b 5,6 , VEGF 7,8 , IGF-I 4,9 and EGF 6,10 . This fact stimulated the development of a platelet concentrate with the intention of increasing the levels of local growth factors delivery, which, theoretically, if present at a damaged site, could improve the healing process.…”
